Verified Compliance Content: This guide has been technically reviewed and verified for accuracy by our panel of Chartered Accountants (CA) and Company Secretaries (CS) to ensure it meets 2026 regulatory standards.

The process is simple:

  1. Download the form: Get the “Proforma for sending Rs 2000 Bank Notes” form. Fill it with your basic details and the note serial numbers. Mention the address of your nearest RBI office. For me, it was Mumbai:
The General Manager, RBI, Issue Department, Main Building, Shahid Bhagat Singh Road, Mumbai 400001.
  2. Attach documents: Include a cancelled cheque copy, PAN copy, and Aadhaar copy, all self-attested.
  3. Make copies: Take 2 xerox copies of the form and the attachments, and self-attest them.
  4. Buy envelopes: Get 2 green envelopes.
  5. Visit the post office: Submit the documents and envelopes. They will verify them, and then you can send a registered post.
